This bow is beautiful! The riser is charcoal colored with multi-layered diamondwood. Quiet with no hand shock. The limbs have a Bamboo core with black glass overlay. There is dark hardwood in the limb wedge. The limb tips are reinforced for any modern string. The small tips reduce hand-shock and give speed. The 15" riser with long sweeping limbs makes for a sweet shooting bow and it weighs under 2 pounds!! It has a nice feeling, comfortable grip. This bow comes with a Dyneema string (fast flight material). Used for its, durability, strength and speed. This great price includes the bow set up with a nocking point, silencers, and the shelf and side material installed. We recommend using one of our large end bow stringer to string up this bow, (purchased separately for $13.00.) NOW INCLUDED!! One year warranty on riser/limbs. Additional longbow limbs are now available These limbs are able to interchange with the riser for a recurve OR a longbow. All that for the low price of $199.95!!

I bought this bow for two reasons. First, as an inexpensive back-up for my regular bow and second, because I want to shoot "3 under" and no matter what I tried on my recurve (padded the string loops, raised brace height, added limb savers, custom bowstring, extra set of string silencers), it is still very, very loud. I talked with John and he recommended this bow. I could not believe it when I shot it! It is smooth, quiet (and it only has one set of cat whiskers on the sting!), fits my hand like a glove, looks great and is quick! (I'm using the same arrows my recurve shoots and it is 2 pounds heavier). I have shot recurves since 1973 (all different makes and models from custom to "standard") but THIS bow has everything I'm looking for in a hunting bow. You may spend more money but I doubt if you will get more bow! (I guess you can tell I'm impressed! Oh, by the way; the recurve is for sale!) Thank you Twig archery!

I am so pleased with this bow. I was looking for a starter bow for my wife as she has never shot before. We wanted a bow she could learn to shoot with and maybe upgrade at a later date. Once we found the Black Hunter and read the reviews and watched the Youtube video we ended up ordering her one and I got one for myself. One week in and I am shooting the Black Hunter better than the custom recurve that I have had for 3 years. My wife is getting better every time she shoots. Will be testing the bows at 3D shoots soon. I would highly recommend this bow and Twig Archery as well!!!!

This is a great longbow, period. It shoots fantastic, I've shot carbon and wood through it. No problems. Mine likes a heavier arrow. I don't know what the fps is, but with the bamboo limbs it is very smoothe and fast. It's got a good sight window and the arrow rest (radiused) appears to be cut to center. The riser is between medium and high and a little thick in the middle but not too thick. My hand is fairly large so it feels fine. Took one range session to get used to it. Typical with any new bow. If your intimidated by the price, don't be. This is not a custom bow, and wasn't meant to be. This is a blue collar working mans bow that will shoot as good as almost any custom longbow. If you want a custom longbow, no problem, their are some great bowyers willing to create your dream bow. But if your not worried about the name on your limbs or the manfacturer when you show up at the next 3D shoot or walk in the woods. And your more interested in good performance no matter how much or little you paid. Then you should check this bow out. You won't be disappointed.......Mike

The Black Hunter reflex-deflex longbow from Twig Archery is an amazing quality bow for an incredibly low price! It is extremely smooth (my previous longbow was also smooth but cost almost $900-hand crafted). The Black Hunter is fast and accurate despite its relatively short length of 60 inches. The bottom line for me is that it is a lot of fun to shoot and performs far above the low price. I am 70 years old and have been enjoying archery since age 7 with many different bows including handcrafted, Bears, Herters, Howatts, etc.
I found a different bow option that I like even better than my new Black Hunter. I asked Twig Archery to send me 'TWO' Black Hunter bows of the same draw weight so that I can share the fun experience with my sons and friends. 3D archery and field archery with the Black Hunter is super enjoyable, and I do not understand how this bow can be so inexpensive?? The manufacturer and Twig Archery have hit a 'home run' with this amazing longbow.

I picked up a Black Hunter after coming across the review done by Twig. It just sounded to good to not give it a try. I have had more than my share of custom and high end longbows and recurves.
The appearance of fit and finish is what first got my attention. It does just not seem to be possible for a bow at this price....and yet it is. Nothing fancy mind you, just solid and functional.
So, I ordered a pair of Bamboo limbs off of Twig ( and you won't talk to 2 nicer folks than these) and mounted them up. Really, really, nice. Went 5# heavier (45#) and am shooting 2114's with 145gr. right where I look.
Guess what bow I will be carrying on our season opener this Saturday?

I very happy with the way this bow shoots. I admit that I was somewhat skeptical at first, but the results can't be denied. My scoring has improved by at least 20% at 20 and 30 yard targets, and my groups have become noticeably tighter than with my 45# Samick Sage. An excellent step up, and great value for the money.

Excellent bow for the money
The small riser is perfect, grip is a forward style grip small rounded shelf that is cut were its close to your hand
Bow is well balanced easy to shoot
Comes with a endless loop string , get ride of it an get a good fast flight Flemish string
Bolts were a bit hard to get started on the original mounting of the limbs
Blows the samick or regim type bow away
The small riser has the feel an style of a high end bow
Great bow
Note from Twig Archery: Not everyone knows this, but the string that comes with the bow IS a Dyneema string, which is a "fast flight" string (solid black, not flemish twist) (It is NOT a B50 Dacron string.)

This is a little gem. 50 years of shooting wood bows, Ive owned the lot. Money no problem, Black Widow, Great Northern, A&H, Toelke, Hill, Centaur, Blacktail, Schultz, Silvertip, Tall Tines etc etc etc.
This bow shoots as well as any of them. Its forgiving, has an easy draw curve, is easy to tune, consistent, quiet and yet costs a fraction of the others. It is well built and looks good to boot. Just a phenomenal bow for a very reasonable price. If you had to own just one bow, this would be it.
Only criticism is the string, but that's an easy modification.
NOTE FROM TWIG ARCHERY:
Not everyone knows that the string that comes with the Black Hunter Longbow is actually a Dyneema fast flight string with served end loops. It is solid black and not flemish twist. This is NOT a B50 dacron string. We do sell these strings separately.

I am probably just repeating what other reviews have already stated that this is a really good bow and an incredible value. The bow itself looks beautiful. It draws way smoother than you would expect for a bow in this price range and it is silent! At 60", it is quite flexible in its uses. Whether you are a beginner or have been shooting for a long time, this is a good bow to own. As well, the fact that you can buy inexpensive limbs either to increase your weight as you get stronger or decrease your weight as you get older is another incredible value. It was a pleasure dealing with Twig. They were very quick to respond to my questions and further enhanced the value of this bow by setting up the rest and nocking point as well as adding cat whiskers to the string.

I have two beautiful bows that I paid more than twice as much for as this one, and I think I got my money's worth with those bows. But the Black Hunter is off the charts for value. I have never shot a smoother-drawing or quieter bow. The combination of the short riser and the long limbs give it a silky pull. Though short, the riser is surprisingly hefty and gives the bow a very solid feel. It is also faster than you would think. Shooting this bow will be a pleasure for any archer at any level. And Twig was exceptionally quick in getting my order out.
